AMERICA REYCLES DAY AWARD
The America Recycles Day Award honors the community, organization, or government entity that has created awareness event in their community to promote America Recycle Day. In order to be eligible, the event must have been registered on the official America Recycles Day web site (www.americarecyclesday.org) through the state coordinator. Selection criteria are as follows. A total of 140 points, including 10 bonus points, are possible.

  • Creates awareness of recycling issues and programs (1 to 20 points)
  • Creativity or originality of the event (s) used to increase participation and involvement ( 1 to 20 points)
  • Focus on "buy recycled" message (1 to 20 points)
  • Amount and quality of local news coverage (1 to 15 points)
  • Number of local dignitaries in attendance at the event (1 to 15 points)
  • Number of partners, sponsors or volunteers involved in the event (s) (1 to 15 points)
  • Number of people participating in the event (s) and/or number of pledge cards signed (1 to 15 points)
  • Number of pounds recovered, recycled, reduced, etc., as a result of the event (1 to 10 points)
  • Bonus points can be awarded by a judge for other information about the nominee (1 to 10 points)

CITIZEN RECYCLER OF THE YEAR AWARD
The Citizen Recycler of the Year honors an individual in the field who has made a significant contribution to the advancement of recycling and waste reduction in Arkansas over the past year. Selection criteria are as follows. A total of 110 points, including 10 bonus points, are possible.

  • Implements nontraditional and traditional approaches to recycling and waste management (1 to 20 points)
  • Presents recycling and waste reduction in a positive light (1 to 20 points)
  • Demonstrates professional leadership in the recycling arena (1 to 15 points)
  • Shares his/her recycling experience with others (1 to 15 points)
  • Leads by example (1 to 15 points)
  • Uses innovative approaches to spread the recycling message (1 to 15 points)
  • Bonus points can be awarded by a judge for other information about the nominee (1 to 10 points)

CORPORATE COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT AWARD
To receive the Corporate Community Involvement Award, a business must meet two criteria. First, it must be a positive community role model by continually researching and utilizing recycling as a solid waste management tool. Secondly, this business must promote recycling within the community or region in which the facility is located. Selection criteria are as follows. A total of 110 points, including 10 bonus points are possible.

  • Supports city, county or regional recycling activities (1 to 20 points)
  • Promotes and encourages recycling (1 to 20 points)
  • Educates customers about recycling (1 to 20 points)
  • Non- work related recyclables items (1 to 20 points)
  • Involvement in city, county or regional waste reduction efforts (1 to 20 points)
  • Bonus points can be awarded by a judge for other information about the nominee (1 to 10 points)

CORPORATE RECYCLER OF THE YEAR AWARD
The Corporate Recycler of the Year Award businesses organizations that have developed successfully waste reduction programs, which included beneficial reuse and recycling practices, and the purchase of recycled products for their own operation. This award is intended to recognize a business/organization for implementing recycling into the office and/or manufacturing setting as a method of saving landfill space, resources and reducing waste disposal costs. Therefore, this award will not be given to a business that relies on recycling as its primary means of income. Selection criteria are as follows. A total of 110 points, including 10 bonus points, are possible.

  • Implementation of an integrated waste reduction program (source reduction, reuse, recycling, composting, etc.) (1 to 20 points)
  • Ongoing employee education programs that include incentives for waste reduction efforts. Examples of incentives include time off, percentage of savings in salary, or savings bonds (1 to 20 points)
  • Administrative policy that demonstrates commitment to waste reduction, reuse and recycling (1 to 20 points)
  • Type of material collected for recycling (1 to 10 points)
  • Waste conscious procurement policies for materials and supplies (1 to 15 points)
  • Willingness to share information and encourage other businesses to start a recycling program (1 to 15 points)
  • Bonus points can be awarded by a judge for other information about the nominee (1 to 10 points)

GOVERNMENT RECYCLER OF THE YEAR AWARD
The Government Recycler of the Year Award recognizes a public employee, public agency, public institution or nonprofit organization that has taken a leadership role in the development and promotion of recycling as a viable waste management tool. Selection criteria are as follows. A total of 115 points, including 10 bonus points, are possible.

  • Implementation of an integrated waste reduction program (source reduction, recycling, reuse, composting, etc.) (1 to 25 points)
  • Innovative aspects of the program (1 to 25 points)
  • Comprehensive publicity/education targeting residential and/or commercial sources (1 to 25 points)
  • Marketing techniques (1 to 10 points)
  • Buy recycled component (1 to 10 points)
  • Per capita waste reduction (1 to 10 points)
  • Bonus points can be awarded by a judge for other information about the nominee (1 to 10 points)

RECYCLING EDUCATION PROGRAM OF THE YEAR AWARD
The Recycling Education Program of the Year Award is presented to the organization, school, or individual that has established an outstanding education program, which offers waste reduction, product reuse and general recycling as one complete educational program within a community or region. Selection criteria are as follows. Up to 110 points, including 10 bonus points, are possible.

  • Recognition within the community or region (1 to 20 points)
  • Community or regional impact (1 to 20 points)
  • Indication of positive behavioral changes within the community or region (1 to 20 points)
  • Ability to provide educational programs to all age groups (1 to 20 points)
  • Participation in programs that require weekend or nontraditional work hours (1 to 20 points)
  • Bonus points can be awarded by a judge for other information about the nominee (1 to 10 points)

SCHOOL/COLLEGE/UNIVERSITY RECYCLER OF THE YEAR AWARD
The School/College/University Recycler of the Year Award will be given to an outstanding school, college or university that demonstrates a long-term commitment to recycling and sustainable resource use both in the classroom and as a way to manage the school's waste expenses. Selection criteria are as follows. Up to 130 points, including 10 bonus points, are possible.

  • Current efforts indicate a long-term commitment to fund the program (1 to 20 points)
  • Purchase of recycled-content materials (1 to 10 points) Implementation of integrated waste reduction program (1 to 15 points)
  • Innovative aspects of program (1 to 15 points)
  • Implementation of a comprehensive education program to educate students, faculty and staff about waste reduction and recycling (1 to 15 points)
  • Volunteer contribution, recruitment and retention (1 to 15 points)
  • Student enthusiasm and ownership of the program (1 to 15 points)
  • Estimated waste diversion savings experienced by the school (1 to 15 points)
  • Bonus points can be awarded by a judge for other information about the nominee (1 to 10 points)

2002 ARC ANNUAL AWARDS PROGRAM
The Arkansas Recycling Coalition (ARC) is comprised of over 200 companies, government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and individuals dedicated to promoting reduce, reuse, recycling and composting methods in Arkansas. The ARC's unique blend of members promotes a sharing of ideas and an understanding of diverse interests and needs. Our Annual Awards Program, held in conjunction with an America Recycles Day Banquet, recognizes and publicizes individuals and organizations for innovative reduce, reuse and recycling program. By doing so, the ARC strives to increase the effectiveness and profile of resource recovery efforts in Arkansas. This year, the 2002 ARC Annual Awards Program will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2002 at DeGrey Lake State Resort Park & convention center in Bismarck. A full day of events celebrating the best in Arkansas Recycling efforts is planned. Award participants, in addition to receiving recognition at the ceremony are assisted in obtaining media coverage in their local communities. At the "Photo Opportunities" segment of the program, pictures are taken of award participants. These pictures are then sent electronically with a press release to requested media. A video is also made highlighting the efforts of award winners. This video is given to award winners and distributed to selected Arkansas media and government officials. ARC Annual Awards Program is open to both members and nonmembers. If you applied in a previous year and did not receive an award, you may reapply in the same or different category. 2002 ARC NOMINATION/APPLICATION PROCEDURE IMPORTANT!
Only those entries in compliance with the following guidelines will be judged. Awards are given based on the total number of points received by nominee. Points are assigned according to the criteria listed in each award category.

  1. All application packages must include as ARC 2002 Annual Awards Program Application Form.
  2. All application packages must include a 50 word or less description/ summary of the individual or program you are nominating. If the nominee is selected as the award winner, this description will be used in the video, press release, and promotional handouts.
  3. All applications must include a minimum of one and a maximum of two, double-sided typewritten pages addressing the required award criteria.
  4. . Application packets may include up to four double-sided pages of supplemental material (pictures, newspaper clippings, etc.) that further explains the program.
  5. Provide the original and three photocopies of your application. Please remember to reduce the amount of paper you use by utilizing both sides.
  6. Please be sure your name is typewritten on the upper right hand corner of each page.

All applications must be postmarked on or before Friday, October 4, 2002.

2002 ARC AWARDS ENTRY CHECKLIST
Please make sure all items are included before sending to the ARC

  • Completed awards application form
  • 50 words or less program descriptions/summary
  • Minimum of one not to exceed two typewritten pages (two-sided) with criteria information
  • Supplemental material not to exceed four two-sided pages
  • Nominee name and category typed in the top right hand corner of each page
  • Original plus three photocopies of all of the above information
  • Send your completed application and materials on or before October 4, 2002
